Allow me to introduce myself, I am Juan Zas Espinosa. I was born in Pontevedra sixty-odd years ago. I owe my love of photography from my father since a very young age, analog and black/white times. Now retired, I dedicate myself to my great passion of traveling, photographing, meeting people, know places… and feeding the retina (which is very important to me). Now that I can still do it, visiting the most remote places in the world, photographing its nature and its people, is one of my current goals.
As I said, photographically I started in black and white: with family photos, photos of places and photographing the Romanesque architecture of Galician monasteries, even capitel by capitel. Times when exposure was calculated in Sherlock Holmes style: this is a 4 second affair (instead of 4 pipes), using the old trick my father taught me of counting seconds by putting a zero in front: zero-one, zero-two, zero-three... I still use it from time to time. There were no automatic light measurement systems built into the cameras and it was all manual controlled then.
Since March 22, 2021, I belong to the Natural Portfolio collective, which currently includes the best Spanish author nature photographers of the moment and some foreigners.
Currently, with more experience, time and equipment; my photographic horizon is continually expanding. My first inclination was as a nature, landscape and travel photographer. But as I learn more technique and my eyes are educated and sharpened, I am currently more and more interested in people photography, the so-called street photography (especially with the mobile), architecture and interior photography; as well as a more creative, minimalist and abstract photography, known by the name of Author Photography (in which lately I am starting to feel more comfortable). In all of them I always try to understand and correctly interpret the Light.
Currently I have won more than 250 international prizes in competitions around the world with almost 185 different images. Among them: the International Photo Awards, Siena Awards, Guipuzkoa International Trophy, Tokyo Awards, Mobile Photo Awards, Narava, Maria Luisa Memorial, Glanzlitcher, etc.
